After the last two BAAFF logos- I wanted something different. The files I was given weren't exactly set up for animation- no shade to them, they weren't expecting their work to animated.

But I wanted the file to ready to animate from the jump. It was just a want I had, but I also had some ideas because it was the Year of the Dragon. Soon, a plan hatched- and so I asked if I could have the opportunity to illustrate the logo.

Thankfully- Susan said yes. This was probably the most hands-on I think the logo process had been for a while. It really did feel like a democratic process where everyone got to give opinions.

The issue was- which option do we go for?

I've posted here some of the process and thinking involved in making this logo. It took a lot- some back and forth, many different iterations, but we got there. These are the sketches I initially gave them, though I did more once I got more ideas.

So, which one got chosen?

Yep! B. Figures they'd choose the one with the most stuff to draw.

So I started thinking about how to improve on it. Sometimes it helps to change the color of different assets to help visualize it.

Changed the Dragon to red- while cool, ultimately not what I went with.

I kept making the Dragon resemble Shenron from Dragon Ball Z. Not intentionally- it just was really influential to me as a kid, and I think elements of it is in my artistic DNA.

I returned to a more monochrome image. Still wasn't sure what the plan was with the text part.

Some of the notes I got from friends, while others were from Susan and other volunteers.

So-to tie it all together...

Voila!
Voila!

Now, for the Animation!
